Centennial’s Girl Up Club Hosts Movie Screening

Words: Maggie Ju

On Friday, November 17, Centennial Girl Up will hold a movie screening in the media center at 7 p.m. and admission is $5 per person. Proceeds will fund materials for future events, and the remaining amount will be donated to the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up campaign.

In honor of the International Day of the Girl, the club will show “He Named Me Malala,” which features Malala Yousafzai, an activist for gender equality and female education. Centennial Girl Up co-president Julie Wang said, “Because these are the causes that our club advocates for as well, we decided that it would be a very fitting film to represent Centennial Girl Up and its mission.”

The Day of the Girl was on October 11, but due to time conflicts, the screening was moved to a later date. Wang was undeterred by the postponement, saying, “Any day should be a day where we celebrate women and girls!”
