Centennial’s One Love Club

Centennials One Love Club

Words: Delanie Tucker

Centennial’s One Love Club is a very important and informational club at our school and across the county. The club has been around since 2010, shortly after the One Love Foundation was created.

In 2009, Yeardley Love, a senior lacrosse player at the University of Virginia, was killed by her ex-boyfriend. Her murder took place just three weeks shy of her graduation. She was known for seeing the best in everyone, and was always there to help someone out. Everything they do in the One Love Foundation is to honor her memory, and to prevent it from happening again.

At Centennial, the One Love club sponsors are Ellen Mauser (guidance counselor) and Kristin Shipp (English teacher). The student organizer is sophomore, Judie Zhou. They encourage anyone interested in helping others and learning about healthy relationships to check out the club, even if you’re not familiar with it. They would like students to be able to talk to and inform others about what a healthy relationship should be.

If you are interested you can find more information on the One Love Foundation website, JoinOneLove.Org, or talk to one of the sponsors. Also, on October 11, at 2:15, there is an Interest Meeting in room 209.
