Golf State Championships

On October 24-26, the Centennial Golf team took part in the State Tournament.

Junior Isabel Trojilo placed twelfth out of 173 in the Women’s tournament.

Sophomore Kenny Chaplain tied for 41st for the Men’s tournament. Trojilo was the only girl from Howard County to individually make it to the State Finals.

Trojilo said, “I was happy that I even qualified to play at states, but to make the cut for the finals was a bonus.”

This completed the Golf teams’ season, good job Eagles!

Cross Country County Championship

On October 27, 2016, the Centennial Eagles Girls and Boys Cross Country teams placed exceptionally well at the County Championship.

Sophomore Alison Betler finished sixth overall with a time of 19:27. The girls’ top six placed as following: Betler(6), senior Kara Taylor(8), sophomore Cora Blount(9), junior Cassie Yates(35), sophomore Christina Stavlas(43), and junior Carolina Requejo(47). The girls placed second overall.

The top six runners for the Boys’ were senior Daniel Gao (14), junior Ethan Carpenter (15), junior Steven Mitchell (17), senior Anthony Ferrara (40), David Rina (46), and sophomore Chris Bieberich(51). The team finished in sixth place overall.

The Regional Championship is on November 3, 2016 at Centennial.

Volleyball Senior Night

On Tuesday October 25,  Centennial High School Volleyball took on the Long Reach Lightning for their Senior Night game.  

The Eagles had a dominating game, winning in three sets. What made this night even more special was the fact that it was Centennial’s Senior Night.  The seniors honored were Camryn Allen, Anna Chan, Gabby Fairley, Sabrina Han, and Rachel Mathew. Each senior walked out with their families while the rest of the team read speeches to them thanking them for their dedication to the team.

The Eagles will play at Howard for the last game of the season.

Salvation Army Canned Food Drive

Centennial’s Salvation Army Club will soon hold its annual Fall Canned Food Drive, which will run from November 1 to November 30. All proceeds will go towards Salvation Army headquarters and the Elkridge Food Pantry, where club members regularly volunteer.

Cans will be collected during first period. Applied Research Laboratory students can leave their donations in the main office’s designated collection box.

All canned or boxed goods are accepted, with the exception of perishable or expired goods.

The two first period classes that collect the most cans or boxes will be rewarded with a breakfast party.

Salvation Army Club aims to obtain 1,600 cans from this year’s drive.

Boys’ Soccer Wins Senior Night Game

On Wednesday October 19,  the Centennial Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team faced off against the Glenelg Gladiators at home for their Senior Night.The team and came out on top with a win after an exciting game.

The Eagles pulled off an impressive victory, defeating the Gladiators 4-2.

As the night kicked off, seniors Shawn Atmar, Skippy Bicknell, Justin Breedlove, Paul Drutch, Amr Narmouq, Ammar Narmouq, Ryan Maher, and Noah Taylor walked out with their families before the game.

All the seniors came out in high spirits to help defeat the Gladiators.

The Eagles will play at Reservoir on Friday, October 21, for the last game of the season.

Field Hockey Senior Night

On October 18, Centennial Field Hockey team took on Glenelg for their Senior Night.

Sadly, the Eagles lost to the Gladiators 5-0.

Senior Mary Margaret Baldy, Brianna Belt, Bella Brillante, Charlotte DeCarlo, Jenna Dietrich, Bridget Isreal Brigit O’Neil, Mary Monroe, and Maggie Sullivan were all honored before the game.

The Eagles’ first playoff game is next Thursday at home.

Girls’ Soccer Loses to Reservoir on Senior Night

On Thursday, October 20, the Girls’ Varsity Soccer team took an unfortunate 1-0 loss against Reservoir High School on Senior Night.

Aside from the unfortunate loss, seniors Mia Coyle, Sandy Eichhorn, Cristina Narron, Jasmine McCree, Gabrielle O’Brien were honored for their dedication to the program.

The rest of the team showed support for their fellow senior teammates by creating posters and hanging balloons to decorate the entire stadium. All of the seniors names were called out and they walked out with their families.

The Eagles’ first playoff game is on November 1, against Reservoir High School.
