Boys’ Soccer Falls to Hebron in Regional Semifinals

Words: Zach Grossman

On Friday, November 4, 2016, Centennial Boys’ Varsity soccer took a season ending loss to Mount Hebron High School in the 3A East Regional Semifinals.

In the first half, Mount Hebron came out extremely strong against the Eagles and scored in the nineteenth minute. The Eagles did not lose hope and kept fighting. After several opportunities from both sides, Hebron led 1-0 throughout the first half.

Nine minutes into the second half, junior goalie Rohit Vepa had what looked to be a great tackle inside of the box, however, a penalty kick was given to Hebron. This put Centennial down 2-0 with just over 30 minutes to play.

With 22 minutes left in the game, sophomore Zach Haskins had a perfectly placed shot that found its way into the net, bringing the Eagles back in the game.

With 18 minutes left in the game, Centennial received a corner kick. Senior Ammar Narmouq had a short corner to sophomore Richard Chung. Chung had an incredible cross directly to junior Matt Merkey. Merkey scored and Centennial went crazy, but it was called offsides by the officials.

After much hard work from both teams, the Eagles unfortunately lost and the season came to an end.
