Centennial’s Chess Club

Words: Shawn Kruhm

The Chess Club invites and welcomes players of all levels of talent to come and share their passion of chess with others. “The mission of the club is to invite all players so that they can enjoy a fun game of chess,” says Harun Gopal, Co-President of the club.

Harun works side by side with President Anudeep Metuku. The club meets from 2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Room 606 every Tuesday.

Members of the club are encouraged to join the Howard County High School Chess League, a casual league in which many students throughout Howard County participate.

The club also plans to attend two tournaments this school year: one in December and another in June.

“The purpose of this organization is to allow students to play against different people and play styles that they might not have seen in their school,” said Harun.
