Centennial Varsity Softball Suffers Season-Ending Loss

Words: Shawn Kruhm

After a challenging season, Centennial softball perfected their craft as they prepared to make a promising playoff run.

Despite an impressive win over Long Reach in extra innings earlier in the week, Centennial was defeated by Reservoir, ending their playoff run.

On Wednesday, May 15, the Centennial Varsity Softball team lost a heartbreaker against Reservoir by a final score of 3-2 in the 3A East section final.

The Eagles got out to a slow start, allowing three unanswered runs in the first three innings. Junior Jordan Hinz kept her team in the game, allowing no runs after the third inning, and assisting the field with a total of five strikeouts.

Tension grew as Centennial trailed by two runs entering the bottom of the seventh, and final inning.

With two outs, the Eagles loaded the bases. Junior Erin McGuire drew the walk which scored senior Grace Bennett to make the game 3-2.

Despite having the tying run on third base, Centennial was unable to force the runner home and tie the game. The emotional loss ends their successful season and advances Reservoir to the next round.
