Centennial wrestling has made a mark in history coming into the new season. Centennial wrestling had over 50 student athletes at the first practice on November 15, 2017. The growth in newcomers may have been influenced by last year’s wrestling statistics. Centennial alumnae, Ammar and Amr Narmouq, could have greatly influenced the turn out for the 2017-2018 season with their impressive stats. Jason Kraisser, a two-time state champ and current junior at Centennial, ended last season with 40 wins and 1 loss as well as winning states.
Although former wrestlers may have influenced the increase in wrestlers this year, senior captain Jacob Blyukher believes it was all for the love of the sport.
“I think more people tried out this year because many of the wrestlers who came out before and stayed around really loved it,” said Blyukher, “wrestling teaches you a lot of valuable life lessons and really helps people reach their full potential both physically and mentally.”
When asked who to look out for, Kraisser said “make sure to keep an eye out for senior Jacob Blyukher, who’s looking for one last chance to make an appearance for himself by placing in states this year. Hopefully Centennial can impress the county this year with a solid line up ready to take on any team in the county.”
Whatever the reason for the turnout of the century, Centennials top competitors, Glenelg and Oakland Mills, better watch out!
