The Centennial wrestling team opened their season with a home match this Thursday, December 7, against Glenelg Country School. They went into the match with a full roster hoping to pull off their first win of the season. Unfortunately, Glenelg Country School only showed out with four wrestlers.

When asked about the low turnout for the opposing team Centennial coach Cliff Kraisser said that he was “disappointed for the guys because they have been working hard since the middle of November. We were excited to have our first match, and we only had the opportunity to wrestle four matches.”

Centennial won with an overall team score of 72-9. The majority of the team points were forfeits by Glenelg Country School. Some standout matches include first year wrestler, Nicholas Ye who won his match with a pin in the third period. Jason Kraisser also had an impressive match pinning his opponent in 52 seconds.

Team captain Kraisser hopes to help the team improve for the next match, so they can secure another win.

“ We need to work on creating opportunities to score in each of our matches,” said Kraisser, “we look good overall, but I think if we can fix those little details for everyone I think we can be great”

The team hopes to continue to dominate in their tri-meet next Tuesday against Howard High School and Wilde Lake High School.
