The Centennial varsity and junior varsity wrestling teams are heading into their county competition on February 16 and 17 at Mount Hebron High School. In previous years the competition has been held at River Hill, but this year it was decided to move the competition to Mt. Hebron.
The varsity competitors have the opportunity to advance to the regional competition whereas the junior varsity team cannot advance forward.
The wrestlers to keep an eye out for are junior Jason Kraisser (145), a two time county and state champion, who is looking to add to his victories, and senior Jacob Blyukher (138), who has finished top in the county tournament every year.
When asked about what he’s looking to accomplish in this year’s county competition Blyukher said, “My ultimate goal is to get a county title, but I also have to set myself small goals to get there like not getting taken down in any match or scoring certain points. I am going to take one match at a time and we’ll see where it goes.”
Newcomer Chris Lee (106) is expected to finish in a top spot in the county competition because of his impressive matches this season. Lee finished in 5th place at the Franklin Tournament. Centennial Wrestling hopes to continue to dominate both individually and as a team at counties.
