National Letter of Intent (Cecilia Lu)

On Monday, November 14, 2011, student-athletes gathered in the media center after school to sign their National Letters of Intent as friends, family, and coaches looked on.

The National Letter of Intent is a binding document that indicates a player’s commitment to a college or university in the NCAA. Student-athletes must sign in order to receive an athletic scholarship or other financial aid. It adds certainty to the recruiting process for both players and coaches and marks the end of the recruiting process. The early signing period began earlier on Friday, November 4, 2011.

For senior Nathan Kraisser, who will be wrestling at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in the fall, committing was “a big relief.” He explained, “It’s a lot of pressure being lifted, [and] it’s exciting to sign with a college early and get it out of the way.”

Other recruited student-athletes who attended the signing included lacrosse players Megan Wallenhorst (Winthrop University), Rachel Benzing (University of Maryland Baltimore County), and Anna Kelly (La Salle University).
