Girls’ Lacrosse Senior Night

On Tuesday, May 3, Centennial Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse defeated the Oakland Mills Scorpions 18-0.

Seniors Izzie Chausse, Peyton Conley, Samantha Courtemanche, Allie Durkee, Devin McIntyre, and Megan Oliver were honored with flowers and gifts. Senior managers Rachel Braun and Reese Western were also thanked for their contributions to the team during the season.

The Eagles offense generated a multitude of opportunities and the defense kept the Scorpions off the scoreboard.

McIntyre had four goals, Courtemanche had three, Chausse and Conley had two, Durkee, Oliver, juniors Laurie Bracey, Gabby Fairley, and Madi Griffin, along with sophomore Claudia Piltcher and freshman Marissa Lagera each had one goal.

Girls’ Lacrosse Defeats Hammond in Season Opener

On Tuesday, March 22, Centennial Girls’ Lacrosse defeated Hammond 17-1 in their opening game.

Led by the offense, Centennial showed their stick skills and maneuvered around the Hammond defense. Seniors Devin McIntyre and Samantha Courtemanche were involved in multiple offensive plays and McIntyre led the team in goals.

Junior Madi Griffin played excellent defense on Hammond’s star player and kept her away from the goal, leading to Hammond’s single goal.

Centennial’s 17 goals were scored by nine different players. McIntyre had four goals, Courtemanche had three, junior Laurie Bracey and sophomore Kirsten Wikner had two each, and seniors Allie Durkee, Peyton Conley, Megan Oliver, junior Griffin, and sophomore Claudia Piltcher had one each.

Girls’ Cross Country Wins 3A State Championship

On Saturday, November 14, both boys’ and girls’ cross country teams traveled to Herford High School to compete in the 3A State Championships.

The girls took first place overall with 68 points, beating Northern High School and Howard County rival River Hill High School. Leading the team was senior Devin McIntyre who finished 10th overall, junior Kara Taylor followed in 13th, senior Jessica Jiang finished close behind in 14th, senior Ashley Mazer finished in 17th, and freshman Alison Betler finished in 19th. Centennial’s top five runners finished in the Top 20 of the race.

Centennial’s boys’ team finished in ninth place overall in the race. The boys were led by senior Andrew Frommer who finished in 44th place overall.

Both teams had excellent seasons and ended on high notes.

National Signing Day

On November 11, National Signing Day, various Centennial student-athletes signed commitment letters to the colleges where they intend to play a sport. Mrs. Hafets announced each person to the table where they signed their letter to their chosen college, surrounded by loved ones and friends.  The senior athletes who signed included Austin Kraisser (wrestling at Campbell University), Samantha Courtemanche (lacrosse at Coastal Carolina University), Michael Moore (lacrosse at Wingate University), Emily Allen (softball at Salisbury University), and Devin McIntyre (lacrosse at Salisbury University).

Cross Country Regionals

On Thursday, November 5, the 3A Cross Country Regional Championship was held at Centennial.

Coming off of a county title, the girls team came away with the regional title for the second time in three years.

Junior Kara Taylor was the top finisher for the Eagles, finishing in third place overall, followed by seniors Jessica Jiang in fourth place, and Devin McIntyre in sixth place.

Freshman Allison Betler came in ninth, while senior Ashley Mazer came in fourteenth, giving the Eagles five top 15 finishes.

The boys team was also successful, placing fourth overall and qualifying for the State Finals. Seniors Andrew Frommer, Will Jackson, and Chris Savage were the top three finishers for Centennial, finishing 18, 21, and 22 respectively. Sophomore Daniel Gao and senior Jacob Rina rounded out the top five for the Eagles, giving them five in the top 30.

The state finals will be on November 14 at Hereford High School.

Centennial Victorious in Cross Country County Championship

On Thursday, October 29, 2015, Centennial hosted the Cross Country County Championship.

The Centennial Girls’ A Team finished strong and were able to clinch first place. Senior Devin McIntyre and junior Kara Taylor finished seventh and eighth, with seniors Jessica Jiang and Ashley Mazer along with freshman Alison Betler finished in ninth, tenth, and fifteenth place respectively.

The Centennial Boys’ A Team finished in sixth place overall. Sophomore Daniel Gao led to team and finished in twenty-eighth place followed by seniors Andrew Frommer, Will Jackson, Jacob Rina, and Chris Savage in thirtieth, thirty-fourth, thirty-sixth, and forty-second place respectively.

Both teams have qualified for Regionals and will be competing on November 5.

Centennial Hosts Howard County Invitational

On Saturday, September 12, Centennial Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country teams hosted the Howard County Invitational, featuring 19 cross country teams from around the region.  Centennial girls placed 1st overall,  with boys coming in 7th.   Senior Devin McIntyre placed 8th amongst the girls, with junior Kara Taylor trailing close behind and finishing 9th, both broke 20 minutes.
