Indoor Track and Field State Championship

On Tuesday, February 21, the Centennial Indoor Track and Field team competed in the State Finals.

For the Boys’ 4×800, juniors Greg Costello, Daniel Gao, Steven Mitchell, and senior Anthony Ferrera came in 7th place with a time of 8:39. This was a very good accomplishment for them and a strong finish to Ferrera’s last indoor season.

For the Girls’ 4×800, junior Claudia Pilcher and seniors Alli Krahe, Mary Monroe, and Olivia O’Connell finished in 6th place with a time of 10:10. This time set a new indoor record for Centennial. For the 1600m, sophomore Alison Betler came in 9th (5:30) and junior Kirsten Wikner came in 11th (5:33). For the 3200m, Betler came in 8th (12:22), sophomore Cora Blount came in 9th (12:25) and senior Kara Taylor came in 10th (12:26).

Indoor Track and Field Regionals

On Tuesday, February 7, the Centennial Eagles Track & Field team participated in Regionals. Centennial had many athletes who finished in the top 8 and multiple who qualified for States.

State qualifiers include Olivia O’Connell, Mary Monroe, Alli Krahe, and Claudia Pilcher for the Girls’ 4×800, along with Steven Mitchell, Daniel Gao, Anthony Ferrara, and Greg Costello for the Boys’ 4×800. Alison Betler finished in 8th place and Kirsten Wikner finished in 7th place for the Girls’ 1600, both qualifying for States. For the Girls’ 3200, Alison Betler, Cora Blount, and Kara Taylor finished 7th, 8th, and 10th, respectively, and all qualified for States. Ethan Carpenter finished in 4th place for the Boys’ 3200 and will run at States.

The runners will compete in the State Championship on February 21.

Orchestra Concert

On Tuesday, December 13, the Centennial High School Music Department held their Orchestra Concert. Many parents and students came out to show their support and dedication for the musicians.

The showed started out with the String Ensemble playing “Midsummer Night’s Dream” and featured many soloists from Amanda Wang, Thomas Luo, Amilee Huang, Shun Shueh, Dylan Chao, Paulina Balderas, Lori Zhao, Anjali Gajendiran, Eric Novey, and Andy Lee. This performance was followed by “Fugue in G Minor”, “Fantasia on Greensleever”, “Heart of Fire”,  conducted by student intern Ms. Konopka from the Peabody Institute, and ended with “Christmas Waltz”.

There was a quick intermission after the “Christmas Waltz” in order for the String Orchestra to take their places on stage.

The String Orchestra featured many seniors playing a short version of their last winter Orchestra Concert. The performance started out with “Serenade for Strings” conducted by Mr. Leung and featured soloists from Mary Monroe and Peter Ho. It ended with the popular song “Sleigh Ride” conducted by Ms. Konopka. At the end of the show Mr. Leung took the time to give recognition to Daniel Wu, Suzi Byun, Siri Neerchal, Sahil Saini, Sean Cooley, and Ethan Lin, the seniors who made All State.

Field Hockey Senior Night

On October 18, Centennial Field Hockey team took on Glenelg for their Senior Night.

Sadly, the Eagles lost to the Gladiators 5-0.

Senior Mary Margaret Baldy, Brianna Belt, Bella Brillante, Charlotte DeCarlo, Jenna Dietrich, Bridget Isreal Brigit O’Neil, Mary Monroe, and Maggie Sullivan were all honored before the game.

The Eagles’ first playoff game is next Thursday at home.
