On Saturday night, Centennial Boys’ Varsity Soccer defeated South Carroll High School 2-1. Senior Nick Good scored a header with 2:33 left in extra time to win the game.

In the first half, Centennial had multiple chances to score with seven shots on goal, but they could not capitalize. The Eagles were creating good opportunities by keeping possession in the midfield and advancing the ball up to senior forward Hamzah Elhabashy.

Elhabashy nearly scored with 17 minutes left in the first half, but the shot went just wide and hit the post.

The Centennial defense performed exceptionally well in the first half, only allowing South Carroll one shot on goal and two corner kicks. The two teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.

The second half was dominated by defense and both teams had limited chances to score. With five minutes left in the game, South Carroll broke the tie and found themselves up 1-0 after a perfect cross was sent in from the right side of the field and was headed in for a goal.

However, Centennial kept their composure and went on the attack. A foul by South Carroll had granted Centennial a free kick. Junior Elliot Keppler stepped up to take the free kick and delivered a beautiful pass where Elhabashy could drive the ball into the back of the net to tie up the game 1-1 with 2:45 remaining.

In overtime, the equalizing goal gave Centennial all of the momentum. Senior Nick Good rose to the occasion and netted a header to propel Centennial to victory.
