Centennial Girls’ Varsity Basketball Moves onto Second Round of Playoffs

Words: Joey Sedlacko

On Friday, March 1, Centennial Girls’ Varsity basketball dominated Atholton High School in the first round of 3A East Regional Playoffs, winning 63-29.

The Eagles got off to a hot start and took a commanding 16-0 lead in the first quarter. Smothering defense by the Eagles allowed Centennial to get easy points in transition. Centennial also had no trouble knocking down open shots and went into halftime leading 35-8.

In the second half, Centennial showed no signs of slowing down and cruised to a 24-point victory.

The Eagles were led by senior Ashley Molz who scored 15 points in the game and junior Brook Anderson. Anderson hit a school-record, seven three-pointers in a game, and finished with 24 points. After her performance on Friday, Anderson is now the school’s all-time leader in three-pointers made in a season.

Centennial looks to continue their momentum into the second round of the playoffs on Tuesday, March 5, when they face co-county champion and top-seeded Long Reach High School.
