Centennial Girls’ Varsity Basketball Season Comes to an End

Words: Joey Sedlacko

On Tuesday, March 5, Centennial Girls’ Varsity basketball traveled to Long Reach High
School to take on the Lightning. Unfortunately for the Eagles, they were eliminated from the 3A East Regional Playoffs after being defeated 69-45.

The first quarter was a fast-paced game and Long Reach was able to jump out to a 15-9
lead, due to the Lightning’s three three-pointers in the quarter.

Costly turnovers by the Eagles allowed Long Reach to extend their lead to 30-16 in the
second quarter, causing Centennial head coach Robert Slopek to take a timeout.

The timeout proved to be effective as Centennial went on a 8-0 scoring run towards the
end of the second quarter to cut the lead to six. Junior Brook Anderson scored six of the eight points during the run and finished with a team-high of 12 points.

However, the Eagles still trailed 32-24 going into halftime.

In the second half, Long Reach continued to shoot well behind the three-point line and
played exceptional defense to seal them the victory.
