Centennial Baseball Week in Review

Words: Shawn Kruhm

The Centennial Boys’ Baseball team experienced an eventful week as they took down two teams in the county following a tough, one-run loss.

On Monday, April 29, Centennial suffered a loss against Wilde Lake High School. The boys were unable to hit consistently as they finished the game with just two runs.

Despite the devastating loss, Centennial pulled themselves together in less than 24 hours and ended Howard High School’s fourteen-game win streak.

On Tuesday, April 30, the Eagles bounced back as they took down the number one team in the county, Howard High school.

Allowing just one run in seven innings, Centennial finished off Howard by a final score of 5-1. Sophomore Chris Betler finished the day with three hits on just three at-bats. The team was led by Senior Evan Eng, who pitched a complete game, finishing with four strikeouts and allowing five hits.

The Eagles kept the momentum going as they battled their rivals for their third consecutive game.

On Wednesday, May 1, Centennial defeated Mount Hebron High School 7-3. Tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Eagles scored four runs to take the lead and seal the victory.

Senior Jake Ewart pitched a phenomenal game, allowing three runs off eight hits through seven innings. Ewart was assisted by several notable plays in the field, along with multiple hits from both Betler and junior Zack Steen.
