The Centennial football team fell to the Glenelg Gladiators 21-3 on Oct. 25.
Both teams went scoreless through the first quarter. The Eagles were the first to score in the game, with a field goal by Nick Cooper in the second quarter. However, the Gladiators quickly came back and scored a touchdown. The quarter ended with the Eagles down 3-7.
The Eagles returned from half time, only down four points, but were unable to score in the second half. The Gladiators scored a touchdown a quarter, bringing the final score to 21-3.
“My boys played as hard as they could, but sometimes it’s hard to get that ‘W,’” said senior captain Tyler Boettcher, who had four tackles. “We can’t just take things for granted; we’ll have to get better.”
Walter Fletcher finished the game with 81 rushing yards, which brought his season total to 1,183 yards. Damon Reaves had 11.5 tackles and a sack. The team will be working hard to improve this week so that they can come out victorious in their game against Marriotts Ridge next week.
“[From here] I’m going to strive to be better, I’m going to do it for my family, the football team,” said Boettcher. “There’s nowhere I’d rather be.”
