Many events have taken place today on April 20th, including A Day of Silence. Though, many are still unsure of what this day represents. Students carried around a slip representing their support for the LGBT alliance and the movement to end bullying and discrimination against it. The mute mouths called attention to the problems active participators in LGBT alliance and the Gay-Straight alliance face everyday. Index cards were posted on walls, explaining individual’s anonymous reasoning for taking part in the silence, as well as a PA announcement discussing the importance of this event. Though A Day of Silence is designated for the LGBT community, it contributes to the bigger picture of destroying bullying, day by day, by opening ears and closing mouths.
