On Thursday, September 10, the Centennial Varsity Volleyball team took the court in their first game of the season against the Long Reach Lightning. The Eagles came out on top, sweeping the Lightning in three sets.
In the first set, the Eagles’ star sisters, Emily and Camryn Allen led the way. E. Allen, a senior, registered five kills and multiple blocks, and C. Allen, a junior, registered four blocks. The Eagles took the first set 25-18.
In the second set, the Lightning put up a valiant fight. They won long rallies and gained a large amount of momentum in the middle of the set. The Eagles’ experience, however, came through in the end. Capitalizing off of Long Reach’s errors, the Eagles racked up points quickly and left the set with a 25-13 victory.
The third deciding set went the Eagles’ way from beginning to end. They got points off Long Reach errors and were able to get younger players on-court experience. They took that set 25-9.
Throughout the match, junior Rachel Mathew, junior Madeline Subasic, senior Allyanna Rice, and sophomore Emily Przybyla shined and gave the Eagles valuable strength.
