Pop Concert

Words: Diana Cagas

Instead of holding the Pop Concert in May as usual, Centennial’s choral department is performing its annual Pop Concert on October 14, according to choir director Jessica Cummings.

During Pop Concert, Centennial choir groups perform songs for those who are interested in listening to popular music. Students also audition to perform solos, duets, and quartets.

Concert Choir is preparing to sing “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay, Women’s Choir will perform Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” along with a mash-up of “Survivor” and “I Will Survive,” and the Madrigals are rehearsing a mash-up of “Don’t You Worry Child” and “Save the World,” both by Swedish House Mafia.

All choir groups are coming together and singing Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s 1967 hit “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

“I know that it is a surprise for students to have the Pop Concert at the beginning of the year,” said Cummings, “but I think it is more fun to start the year with popular music.”

Entry fees are suggested donations with $5 per person or $10 per family.
