On Wednesday, October 21, Centennial Field Hockey faced the Reservoir Gators for Senior Night.
Seniors, Alana morgante and Vicky DeSande, were awarded and thanked by the younger players, both on JV and Varisty, as well as their coaches for their dedication to the Centennial Field Hockey program.
“I am so happy how the past 4 years have gone and especially this season. We worked really well as a team this year and I can’t wait to see what we can do during playoffs,” says DeSande.
The Eagles went on to play the evenly matched Gators with an aggressive game that consisted of numerous corners on both teams and strong breaks down the field by juniors Mary Margaret Baldy, and Olivia O’Connell, and senior Alana Morgante.
The score remained tied at 0-0 until the last five minutes of the second half with a goal by Reservoir, and then Centennial’s Zahraa Hotait, a sophomore, answered quickly with a goal with less then two minutes remaining in the game.
The Eagles and Gators then battled it out in over time until O’Connell broke the tie and scored the game-winning goal, ending the game.
The Eagles pulled it off with a great end to the season for the seniors. Coach Tara Carr proudly stated, “The seniors were instrumental in our success last night, Alana made numerous contributions on the defensive line by stopping Reservoir’s fast breaks and creating quick offensive transitions. Vicky was a beast on the front line by consistently stepping to ball to continue to an offensive transition.”
