Centennial High School’s It’s Academic team competed in their first competition at WJZ TV on Saturday, September 17, 2016. The It’s Academic team was lead by senior captain Siri Neerchal, alternate and senior Rohan Laljani, senior Sahil Saini, and junior Jakob Boeye. Centennial clenched the winning title by soaring over the competition totaling a score of 805 points. Catholic High School came away 340 points and Mount Hebron had 300. Over the past 10 years no one has beaten Centennial High School’s record score of 805 points.
During the taping of the show, Centennial’s Drill team cheered on the It’s Academic team. Lynnette Moore, the Vice Principal represented the faculty of Centennial and also helped to encourage the team, as she is a veteran of It’s Academic tapings. Also to support the Eagles’ efforts was bus driver, Michael Gelman. The Eagles are so overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm they have received from students and teachers at the tapings. This win represents a lot to the Eagles as the veterans of the program, Saini, Boeye, and Lalijani have been involved with It’s Academic since middle school, with their program led by Dr. Lantz. The Centennial It’s Academic team also extends thanks to: Centennial Boosters, Ms.Hafets, Ms.Beall, and Ms.Vanderpool, who have been there to support the team.
For the third year in a row, the Centennial It’s Academic team, has been ranked top 20 in the nation for It’s Academic teams. The taping will be aired on October 1 airing on WJZ TV.
