Season Switch day followed PJ Day in Centennial’s Winter Spirit Week. Even in 30 degree weather many students wore their hawaiian shirts, khaki shorts, rompers, and sunglasses during this spirit day.

Senior Charlotte DeCarlo was strutting through the hallways in her colorful hawaiian shirt, enjoying the day, and junior Claire Priestley was ready for the beach with her sunglasses and towel draped on her shoulders.

The Winter Spirit Week will continue with Ugly Sweater Day on Wednesday, December 21.

SAT: Old vs. New

Words: Melinda Gwanzura

On Saturday, March 5, various students took the new version of the SAT. Some students were retaking the exam, while others were taking it for the first time.

Junior Quentin Lehman, one of the students who took both the old and new SAT, said the old SAT was much more challenging, “ There was way more sections in the first one and it was much more tedious compared to the newer one.” Lehman went on to state, “ I personally feel that the new version is a much better assessment because we had more time to answer the questions due to the shorter sections.”

Similarly, students who took only the new version agreed that the assessment was relatively easy. Juniors Charlotte DeCarlo, Michael Martinitis, and Melissa Nussbaum all agreed that the level of intensity of the new version of the SAT was only a 6 out of 10. The three also concurred that the math section of the test was the most difficult portion.

Field Hockey Falls to Atholton in Playoffs

Words: Paul Drutch

Centennial’s field hockey season has unfortunately come to an end after a defeat to Atholton on Thursday, October 29.  The game was a battle for possession, with impressive attacking plays from senior Vicky De Sande and junior Olivia O’Connell.

Centennial’s defense had many important plays, including goal line clearances from juniors Bella Brillante and Charlotte DeCarlo. Centennial’s progress from earlier in the year was very apparent, only losing 1-0 as opposed to 9-0 earlier in the season.

Atholton scored in the last minutes of the first half. Perhaps one of the best performances of the year came from junior Jennifer Dietrich, Centennial’s goalie. Dietrich had double digit saves by the end of the game, and multiple blocks.

The season has come to an end, but the improvement was noticed by all players and spectators.
