On Friday, January 4, Centennial Boys’ Varsity basketball defeated the Howard Lions by a final score of 50-37.
The first quarter was all about defense. The ball was back-and-forth the entire quarter as both teams struggled to convert on big plays. Centennial led 8-5 at the end of the first quarter.
As play resumed, Centennial continued to fall short on missed opportunities. Howard began to take advantage of the Eagles’ poor offensive series, resulting in Centennial scoring just five points in the second quarter. Heading into halftime, Howard led by a score of 18-13.
Despite their lackadaisical first half, Centennial came out ready to win. They scored 21 points in the third quarter alone. Assisted by numerous turnovers, Centennial held Howard to just seven points.
The Eagles completely turned the game around as they converted on a crucial run and closed out the third quarter with a 34-25 lead over Howard.
Centennial kept their fast-paced game plan throughout the second half. In the fourth quarter, they continued creating turnovers, resulting in easy buckets in transition.
The Eagles finished the game on a 37-19 run, giving them the win. Junior Joey Sedlacko was a big factor in Centennial’s comeback win. Leading the team in scoring, Sedlacko finished with 15 points, leading his team to victory.
The Centennial Boys’ basketball team will travel to Marriotts Ridge for their next game, on Wednesday, January 9.
