Centennial Basketball Starts Off Strong

The week of December 6 was the season opener for Howard County winter sports. Kicking it off on Monday, both boys’ and girls’ basketball programs swept Oakland Mills, starting the season with wins.

The girls’ game was away at Oakland Mills. The JV took the first win of the night with a final score of 31-22.

The varsity girls’ team played next and came out with high intensity. Due to it being their first game, they had to quickly work through their nerves and battled against a very competitive team. Without the help of the student section, the parents and teammates supported each other and brought positive energy.

With a final score of 48-33 Centennial girls’ varsity rode home on a high. Team captain and senior, Lauren Pellegrini, led the team to victory.

For the boys’ games, the Eagles had a packed house and the student section participated in “jersey night.” Boys’ varsity played after JV won their outing, and also took a win with a score of 67-51. Senior captain Cameron Grable was the top scorer.

The Eagles will compete against Glenelg on Friday, December 10. The boys will play at Centennial and the girls will play at Glenelg. Good luck Eagles!
