On Dec. 5, 2025, the first snow day of the season, the Naval Academy brought its strike group simulators to Centennial High School. These VR simulators include ship navigation, flight simulation, and tasks like launching aircraft and underwater welding. Though the parking lot was covered in snow, some classes were still able to go out and experience what it’s like to be on duty as a Sailor. 

Centennial seniors Jerica Yuan and Elise Palabrica both reflect their enjoyment throughout their participation, experimenting with different simulators and experiencing the roles of a Navy Sailor. Furthermore, Palabrica said, despite the freezing weather, “the workers there were very nice and patient.” Yuan echoed this, revealing that “the people were also super supportive and nice.”

This opportunity gave many Centennial students the ability to explore an alternative path for their future, one different from a four-year college. Yuan explained that being able to talk to people who actively serve in the Navy made “it seem a lot less intimidating.” Palabrica also noted, “After the experience, you could also learn more about the Navy and let them know if you’re interested in joining.” 

Not only do students get a first-hand experience of what the Navy does, but they are also able to ask questions and make connections with people who will help them through recruitment. Even students who aren’t interested in joining the Navy/the Military are able to play around and learn. 

Additionally, Palabrica explained, “Yes, I would recommend this to other schools because even if you aren’t interested in the Navy, it was nice to get a break from classwork and go outside to try out the different stations they had.”
