Centennial Volleyball Faces Top Seeds in Playoffs

On Wednesday, April 7, the Centennial Eagles’ varsity volleyball team defeated River Hill High School in the first round of the county playoff tournament. The Eagles swept the series, winning the first set 25-20 and the second 25-16. This was a big win for the fourth seeded Eagles as River Hill was not far off at the fifth seed.

The Eagles followed up this win on Wednesday, April 14, when they took on top-seed Howard High School.

“We’ve played Howard before, and they’re a great team and a tough opponent… I have faith that this time we will perform much better and make ourselves proud,” Hollwedel declared prior to the game.

Unfortunately, Centennial fell to Howard in two sets, losing 25-20 and 25-17. To finish off the season, the Eagles played in a farewell match against Marriotts Ridge on Thursday, April 16. It ended in a loss, with scores of 25-9 and 25-15.

“We didn’t end the season the way we wanted to,” said Hollwedel. Despite this, the senior only had positive things to say about the season and her team. “As corny as it may be, I’ll never forget all the memories I made with some of the most talented and unique young women I’ve ever met.”

In terms of the program’s future, Hollwedel stated that “[she] 100% believes the program is in good hands for the upcoming years and will be a force to be reckoned with.”
